Shenandoah University's Carolyn Adams, a doctoral student in the Division of Occupational Therapy, has developed a capstone project that will help Winchester-area residents learn more about aging in place and is partnering with Blue Ridge Habitat for Humanity to teach a series of classes about the concept.

Eight Shenandoah University students and two faculty members left for Arizona on Monday, Feb. 6, to begin a weeklong experiential learning trip centered around Super Bowl LVII and its related events.

Shenandoah University Division of Athletic Training graduate students Cade Watts, Molly Sobolewski, Chloe Tannenbaum and Meghan Flaherty earned first place in the Student Quiz Bowl, a "Jeopardy"-style competition featuring athletic training programs from Virginia, at the Virginia Athletic Trainers' Association (VATA) Annual Meeting on Jan. 13-15 in Harrisonburg, Virginia. Watts also won the Professional Athletic Training Student Research Award for his presentation, "Relationship Between Sports-Related Concussion and Cervical Muscle Strength."

Shenandoah University inducted 21 students and alums into the Omicron Delta Kappa (ODK) national leadership honor society on Sunday, Jan. 29. Juniors, seniors, graduate students and alums were nominated by faculty and staff for excelling in both leadership and academics, and members were selected to ODK through an application process. SU Vice President of Student Affairs Yolanda Barbier Gibson, D.A., was inducted as an Horonis Causa, or honorary member, for her endless commitment to student development, leadership, and service to the Winchester community. Students selected to be a member of Omicron Delta Kappa must meet the honor society's leadership values of collaboration, inclusivity, integrity, scholarship and service. Additionally, they must be in the top 35% of their class and demonstrate leadership in at least one of the five pillars of campus life: academics, athletics, service, communications and arts. The Shenandoah University football team had four members earn All-State honors in selections announced recently by the Virginia Sports Information Directors Association. Ben Burgan and Keyshawn Wilder lead the quartet with first team honors, while Rashadeen Byrd Jr. and Mason Caldwell both grabbed second team accolades.

Four Shenandoah University field hockey players earned All-State honors for the Fall 2022 season, the Virginia Sports Information Directors Association announced. Mairead McKibbin, Kelsey Jones, and Elise Velasquez are first team honorees, while Cassidy Morrison is recognized on the second team.

Shenandoah University field hockey players Mairead Mckibbin and Kelsey Jones were selected to the 2022 National Field Hockey Coaches Association Division III All-American Teams, the association recently announced. Mckibbin earned second team All-America honors while Jones was selected to the third team.

Shenandoah University volleyball junior Jillian Warter was named Academic All-District in selections announced recently by the College Sports Communicators. Warter, a psychology student with a 3.82 GPA and a three-time All-ODAC honoree, is now a candidate for Academic All-America. To be eligible for Academic All-America, nominees must have at least a 3.5 GPA on a 4.0 scale and played in 50 percent of the team's contests.

Jones, a graduate student, and Mckibbin, a sophomore, were both named first team All-Region VI, while Velasquez, a junior, was named to the second team.

Shenandoah University sophomore Nathan Yared has earned first team All-ODAC honors for men's soccer in selections announced recently by the Old Dominion Athletic Conference. Yared, a forward and a Springfield, Virginia, native, becomes the first SU men's soccer player to be named first team All-ODAC.

Shenandoah University women's soccer players Jordan Haack, Elizabeth McGee and Karissa Dominick were named 2022 Academic All-District by the College Sports Communicators and are now candidates for Academic All-America. Haack, McGee and Dominick, who helped the Hornets to an 11-win season and a spot in the ODAC tournament semifinals, have an average GPA of 3.80, with Haack leading the way at 3.96. To be eligible for Academic All-America, nominees must have at least a 3.5 GPA on a 4.0 scale and must have played in 50% of their team's contests. The Academic All-America ballot is voted on by athletic communications professionals across the nation, and the AAA team will be announced in December.

Two Shenandoah University women's soccer players have been selected to the 2022 All-ODAC teams, the Old Dominion Athletic Conference announced on Wednesday, Nov. 9. Junior Elizabeth McGee has been selected to the All-ODAC second team and sophomore Chandler Gallant represents the Hornets on the third team.

Shenandoah University junior volleyball player Jillian Warter has earned 2022 All-ODAC honors for volleyball in selections announced by the Old Dominion Athletic Conference on Sunday, Nov. 6. Warter, an outside hitter, earned All-ODAC accolades for the third consecutive year after leading Shenandoah in kills, kills per set, and sets played. This season, she is a second team All-ODAC honoree after being a third team selection in both 2020 and 2021.

The defending ODAC champion Shenandoah University baseball team has named 13 players to its 2022-23 leadership council. Frankie Ritter has been named as the team's captain in a vote of the 2023 squad, with Gavin Horning and Reilly Owen voted as co-captains. Shenandoah University's field hockey team had nine players named to the 2022 All-ODAC squad, the Old Dominion Athletic Conference announced on Tuesday, Nov. 8. SU's honorees are headlined by Offensive Player of the Year Mairead Mckibbin and Defensive Player of the Year Elise Velasquez. Cassidy Morrison and Kelsey Jones joined Mckibbin and Velasquez on the All-ODAC first team. Lauren Tyre, Farren Winter and Taylor Swann were second-team honorees, and Claudia Lenahan and Madison Short were named to the third team.

Shenandoah University has announced the 50 individuals who were selected for the 2023 Global Citizenship Project (GCP). Those individuals will travel to one of five international or domestic destinations during spring break in March 2023. Participants will learn their destinations and trip leaders at Shenandoah's International Convocation on Wednesday, Nov. 9. Since its inaugural year in 2005, the Global Citizenship Project has sent more than 900 members of the Shenandoah University community to over 60 destinations so that each person might learn more about the world and themselves. Shenandoah University had a school-record 291 student-athletes named Academic All-ODAC, the Old Dominion Athletic Conference announced. Student-athletes who posted at least a 3.25 GPA for the 2021-22 academic year were recognized for the honor. All 21 eligible intercollegiate athletic programs at SU had at least one student-athlete selected, and the Hornets ranked second in the 15-team conference in total honorees. Baseball and football led Shenandoah athletics with 45 Academic All-ODAC selections each, while women's golf posted a perfect mark with all seven of its members earning the honor. Thirteen Shenandoah teams had at least 10 members earn Academic All-ODAC accolades.

Shenandoah University's Department of Intercollegiate Athletics has announced that the university had 346 student-athletes earn Athletic Director's List honors for the Spring 2022 semester. To qualify for this honor, student-athletes must have a semester GPA of 3.0 or higher. Fifty Shenandoah student-athletes posted a perfect 4.0 GPA, and 218 were named to the university's Dean's List with at least a 3.5 GPA. Nineteen of the university's 22 intercollegiate athletic programs had at least one student-athlete with a 4.0 GPA.

Shenandoah University is pleased to announce the 1,204 graduates who received their degrees or certificates during the 2021-22 academic year.
