Soste-Taffur '25 Awarded 2025 Ben-Dov Family, Luminescence Foundation Scholarship

Samuel Soste-Taffur '25 (Bachelor of Music Therapy) has been awarded the 2025 Ben-Dov Family, Luminescence Foundation Scholarship for music therapy. This $12,000 scholarship was created in partnership with A Place to Be, a private, nonprofit music therapy practice with offices in Middleburg, Virginia, and Leesburg, Virginia, to support music therapy students during their internship. Soste-Taffu will begin his internship at A Place to Be this summer.

Vining '25 Awarded Presser Foundation's 2024-25 Undergraduate Scholar Award

Beda Vining '25 (Bachelor of Music in Music Education) was awarded the Presser Foundation's 2024-25 Undergraduate Scholar Award. The award is designed to encourage and support the education of a music student who has achieved a high level of musical and academic excellence, demonstrated leadership and service, and contributed to an inclusive community. Beda received the award based on her musical and academic excellence, leadership and service and contribution to an inclusive community.

Shockey '25 Awarded $5,000 Strong Scholarship

Emma Shockey '25 (Bachelor of Music in Music Education with a Performance Certificate) was awarded a $5,000 scholarship award from the Hattie M. Strong Foundation (HMSF) to defray costs during student teaching in the fall semester. Shockey is a student teacher at Sycolin Creek Elementary School in Leesburg, Virginia, and Seneca Ridge Middle School in Sterling, Virginia.

McKibbin '24 Receives Hattie M. Strong Foundation Scholarship

Shenandoah University education student Mairead McKibbin '24 is the recipient of a Hattie M. Strong Foundation Scholarship to help defray costs incurred during student teaching. The $5,000 scholarships are awarded to "reduce financial pressure during the student-teaching semester, when a student's ability to offset expenses with outside employment is curtailed by the rigor of full-time work in the classroom," according to the HMSF website. The scholarship recipients, who are candidates for initial teacher licensure, are commonly known as Strong Scholars.

Shenandoah University Physician Assistant Studies student Kimberly Siguenza Depaz received a National Health Service Corps Scholarship, which covers her grad school expenses and commits her to two years of full-time service in a health professional shortage area.

Shenandoah Doctor of Education Student Receives AAUW Scholarship

Shenandoah University Doctor of Education in Educational Leadership student Annmarie Noonan was recently awarded the American Association of University Women's Dr. Amy Lee Parker Endowed Scholarship. The scholarship is awarded to a woman enrolled in SU's Division of Education and Leadership and is applied toward spring tuition.

Nursing Student Receives United Health Foundation Scholarship

Yesenia Nunez,'22, MSN-FNP student, was awarded The National Association of Hispanic Nurses (NAHN) Scholarship on July 17, 2020. This is a 3-year award for $5,000 each year that is funded by the United Health Foundation. Scholarship recipients are a select group of Hispanic nursing students who demonstrate promise of professional contributions to the nursing profession and who have the potential to act as role models for other aspiring nursing students. Nunez is also working on her post-graduate certificate for healthcare management in the School of Business.

Shenandoah Student Earns Scholarship Award

Carmen Mazyck has been presented with the Jo Anne J. Trow Award from Alpha Lambda Delta for the 2020-21 academic year. The $1,000 award was started in 1988 to honor the past national president of Alpha Lambda Delta. Jo Anne J. Trow is the former vice-president for student services at Oregon State University. She served Alpha Lambda Delta as national president from 1985 to 1988.
