Shenandoah's Greene Named First Team All-Region, Earns WBCA All-America Honorable Mention

Shenandoah University senior Terese Greene added to her list of accolades this week as she was an All-Region 6 first team pick by D3hoops.com and an NCAA Division III All-American honorable mention selection by the Women's Basketball Coaches Association (WBCA) for the 2024-25 season. Greene is the first player in program history to earn first team all-region honors from D3hoops.com and the first to receive WBCA All-American honorable mention recognition since Laura Johnson in 1985. Greene also was selected to the WBCA's Division III Women's Collegiate All-Star Team, another first in program history.

Shenandoah's Crowder Earns All-Region Honors In Indoor Track

Shenandoah University graduate student William Crowder has earned indoor track and field All-Region honors from the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA), as announced by the organization on Wednesday. Crowder received All-Region recognition for his performance in the 60-meter dash this season. His best time of the year came in the prelims of the ODAC Indoor Championships, where he clocked in at 6.85 seconds. He went on to finish second in the championship race with a time of 6.86 seconds, matching his runner-up performance at the South Region Final Qualifier hosted by Shenandoah on March 7-8. The Winchester native consistently displayed his speed throughout the season, breaking the 6.90-second mark four times and running under seven seconds in 10 races. In total, he competed in six 60-meter dash finals across the Hornets' nine-meet indoor campaign.

SU's Crowder, Women's DMR Earn All-ODAC Accolades At Indoor Championships

Shenandoah University graduate student Will Crowder and SU's women's distance medley relay team earned All-Old Dominion Athletic Conference accolades at the ODAC Indoor Track and Field Championships in Salem, Virginia, on March 1-2. Crowder, a national championship qualifier and second team All-American during the indoor season in 2024, scored second team All-ODAC honors on March 2 with a runner-up finish in the men's 60-meter dash (6.85 seconds). The women's DMR team, composed of junior Amy Oleksy, first-year Megan Brophy, first-year Grace Semow, and graduate student Mackenzie Plowman, earned third team All-ODAC recognition with a third-place finish (13:09.98) on March 1.

Shenandoah's Davis Named Third Team All-ODAC

Shenandoah University sophomore guard Dorian Davis was named to the 2025 All-Old Dominion Athletic Conference men's basketball team, in selections announced by the league on Thursday, Feb. 27. In his first season as a Hornet, Davis became just the fifth player in program history to earn All-ODAC honors. He led the team in scoring, averaging 14.2 points per game, while tallying four rebounds and 1.3 assists in 24 games.

Three Hornets Named To 2025 All-ODAC Women's Basketball Team

Three Shenandoah University women's basketball players were named to the 2025 All-Old Dominion Athletic Conference team in selections announced Thursday, Feb. 27, by the league. Terese Greene was named All-ODAC first team, Maddie Kimble received All-ODAC second team honors, and Shawnise Campbell secured a spot on the All-ODAC third team.

Shenandoah University Football Lands 8 On VaSID All-State Team

Shenandoah University quarterback Steven Hugney was named Offensive Player of the Year to lead a group of eight Hornets who were selected to the Virginia Sports Information Directors Association's 2024 College Division All-State Football Team, which was released on Jan. 30. Joining Hugney (Fairfax, Virginia) on the first team were offensive tackle David Munoz (Louisa, Virginia), linebacker Matt Conroy (Bel Air, Maryland), and cornerback Sean Perry (Baltimore). Running back Jalen Redfearn (Woodbridge, Virginia), wide receiver Broden Domenico (Fleming Island, Florida), offensive lineman Dominic Gulli (Monrovia, Maryland) and defensive lineman Ethan Brown (Ellicott City, Maryland) earned second-team honors.

Eight Hornets Named to VaSID All-State Field Hockey Team

Shenandoah University's field hockey program claimed two of the four major awards when the Virginia Sports Information Directors (VaSID) announced the 2024 All-State Field Hockey College Division teams and award winners on Jan. 22, with graduate student Farren Winter winning Player of the Year and Ashley Smeltzer-Kraft being named Coach of the Year. In addition to those accolades, Winter was named to the VaSID First Team alongside Mairead McKibbin, Cassidy Morrison, and Elise Velasquez. Three other Hornets - Camryn DeLeva, Madison Short, and Taylor Swann - secured spots on the VaSID Second Team.

Munoz Earns Second All-America Honor Of The Season

For the second time this season, Shenandoah University football offensive lineman David Munoz has earned All-America honors, as he was selected as a second-team honoree by D3football.com on Thursday morning. Munoz, a graduate student, was previously named a second-team All-American by the American Football Coaches Association (AFCA) in December. In addition to these two All-America honors, the standout offensive tackle also earned D3football.com first-team All-Region and first-team All-Old Dominion Athletic Conference accolades this season.

Shenandoah's Munoz and Hugney Named Academic All-America

Shenandoah University graduate student David Munoz and senior Steven Hugney have been named to the College Sports Communicators (CSC) Academic All-America Division III Football Team in selections released by the organization on Jan. 28. Munoz, an offensive tackle for the Hornets, earned first team honors with a 3.79 undergraduate GPA and a 3.67 GPA in his digital marketing graduate program. Hugney, a data science and computer science major, was voted to the second team with a 3.99 career GPA.

SU Field Hockey's Winter, Velasquez Earn NFHCA All-America Honors

Shenandoah University field hockey players Farren Winter and Elise Velasquez earned 2024 All-America honors from the National Field Hockey Coaches Association and Apex Field Hockey, marking the third straight season the program has had two student-athletes earn the distinction. Winter and Velasquez were among 48 NCAA Division III All-Americans announced by the NFHCA and Apex Field Hockey on Dec. 17.

Shenandoah University's football team had four players named to the 2024 D3football.com All-Region 3 team, in selections announced by the website on Dec. 11. Offensive tackle David Munoz led the honorees with first-team recognition, while defensive back Sean Perry was named to the second team. Quarterback Steven Hugney and running back Jalen Redfearn rounded out Shenandoah's selections with third-team honors.

SU's Weaver Picks Up 100th Career Wrestling Win

Shenandoah University senior Dylan Weaver made history for the Hornets' wrestling program on Dec. 6 when he became the first SU wrestler to reach 100 career victories. Weaver, competing at 174 pounds, reached the milestone with his second win during the Petrofes Invitational at Messiah University.

Munoz Earns All-America Honors For Shenandoah Football

Shenandoah University senior offensive tackle David Munoz has been named to the 2024 American Football Coaches Association Division III All-America Team, the AFCA announced Tuesday, Dec. 3. Munoz, a team captain for the Hornets, is the first Shenandoah football player to earn All-America honors since Ben Burgan accomplished the feat in 2021 and the first offensive player to do so since fellow offensive lineman Daniel Small achieved the recognition in 2019.

Selection to the NFHCA's Senior Team highlights a student-athlete's performance as well as their impact on and off the field.

Shenandoah Football Lands 11 On All-ODAC Team, Wins 3 Major Awards

Shenandoah University senior quarterback Steven Hugney and head coach Scott Yoder headlined the 2024 All-Old Dominion Athletic Conference football selections as the Hornets earned three major awards and 11 all-conference selections. Hugney was named the Offensive Player of the Year and ODAC/Virginia Farm Bureau Scholar-Athlete of the Year, while Yoder was voted Coach of the Year. Joining Hugney on the first team were running back Jalen Redfearn, receiver Broden Domenico, offensive lineman David Munoz, linebacker Matt Conroy and defensive back Sean Perry. Offensive lineman Dominic Gulli, defensive linemen Ethan Brown and Corey Kidwell, and defensive back Ahvyon Boothe were second-team selections, and receiver Guy Hayes was named to the third team.

Shenandoah University's field hockey team had an impressive showing in the 2024 All-Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) selections released on Tuesday, Nov. 12, with eight Hornets earning All-ODAC honors and the program netting four of the ODAC's five major awards.

2 Hornets Earn All-Region Honors For SU Cross Country

The Shenandoah University women's cross country team had two individuals earn All-Region accolades during the NCAA South Region Championships on Nov. 16 in Jackson, Mississippi. Senior Makenna Thrush and first-year Maddy Chorney finished 24th and 27th, respectively, to lead the Hornets to a fifth-place finish. Thrush completed the 6K race in 22:59.01, while Chorney finished with a time of 23:11.95. All-Region honors are awarded to the top 35 individuals in each of the NCAA Division III regional competitions.

Men's Basketball Lands Four on NABC Honors Court

Four members of the Shenandoah University men's basketball team were named to the 2023-24 National Association of Basketball Coaches Honors Court on July 15. Graduate students Jaylen Williams and Davion Roberts, senior Gavin Bizyak and junior Kendrick Robinson represent the Hornets on the list, which includes more than 2,100 players. Robinson and Williams lead the quartet of Hornets by achieving a career GPA of 3.80 or higher. The honors court recognizes men's basketball student-athletes from all collegiate levels who achieve a 3.20 cumulative GPA or higher. Student-athletes must be a junior, senior, or graduate student to earn the academic award. This marks the fifth consecutive year the Hornets have had at least one player on the honors court, and the fourth season in which SU has had multiple honorees. Roberts has earned this distinction for the fourth time, while Williams and Bizyak earned the award for the third and second time, respectively.

Six Hornets Named Academic All-State

Six Shenandoah University student-athletes were selected to the 2023-24 Virginia Sports Information Directors Association (VaSID) Academic All-State Team in selections released by the association on July 11. The six Hornets honored were Farren Winter (field hockey), David Munoz (football), Devin Kohout (men's soccer/track & field), Emily Williams (women's basketball), Mark Isabelle (men's lacrosse), and Karlie Zamora (women's golf). Thirty-six schools and 216 student-athletes were represented on this year's VaSID Academic All-State Team.

Bell Named Academic All-America for Second Consecutive Year

Shenandoah University pitcher Jacob Bell earned 2024 Third Team Academic All-America honors in selections released recently by College Sports Communicators. Bell, a graduate student and the ace of SU's pitching staff in 2024, earned this prestigious award for the second consecutive year, joining 11 other Division III players to earn the distinction in 2023 and 2024.

Five Hornets Earn Track & Field Academic All-District Honors

Shenandoah University track and field student-athletes Katya Hoover, Mackenzie Plowman, Janelle Anderson, Dylan Tubbs and Devin Kohout were named to the College Sports Communicators 2024 Academic All-District Team. The five Hornets each posted at least a 3.30 GPA, with two of them gaining a 4.0 GPA in the spring.

ODAC Announces 2023-24 Sportsmanship Teams

The Old Dominion Athletic Conference recently announced the 2023-24 ODAC Sportsmanship Teams in each of the conference's 25 sponsored sports. The squads are composed of a student-athlete selected by the coaching staff of each team competing under the conference banner, with all sports and schools fully represented.

SU Men's Lacrosse Earns USILA Team Academic Award, Mark Isabelle Named Scholar All-American

Shenandoah University's men's lacrosse team earned the United States Intercollegiate Lacrosse Association (USILA) 2024 Team Academic Award while Mark Isabelle was named a Scholar All-American by the organization on June 14. The USILA Team Academic Award is given to teams who record a collective GPA of 3.0 or higher. Similarly, Scholar All-America honors are awarded to seniors with a cumulative GPA of at least 3.0. As a team, SU posted a GPA of 3.24 and was one of four Old Dominion Athletic Conference programs to make the listing, joining Hampden-Sydney College, the University of Lynchburg, and Washington and Lee University.

Shenandoah's Velasquez, Horning Win ODAC's Berkley and Jopson Awards

Shenandoah University field hockey standout Elise Velasquez and Hornets baseball star Gavin Horning earned the Old Dominion Athletic Conference's Marjorie Berkley and Harry G. "Doc" Jopson awards, the highest individual awards bestowed by the conference. This is the first time Shenandoah has swept the Berkley and Jopson Awards. Horning is first SU recipient of the Jopson prize, while Velasquez joins former women's basketball standout Olivia Weinel (2022) as winners of the Berkley Award.

The Shenandoah University baseball team earned four College Sports Communicators (CSC) Academic All-District awards in selections announced by the organization on June 4. First baseman Chandler Ballenger, pitcher Jacob Bell, third baseman Pearce Bucher, and outfielder Gavin Horning each earned the honor, and Bell was named a CSC Academic All-America team finalist.

Shenandoah Softball Earns Five CSC Academic All-District Honors

The Shenandoah University softball program has earned five College Sports Communicators (CSC) Academic All-District awards in selections announced recently by the association. The five Hornets on the Academic All-District Division-III team are Tiffany Bower, Rachael Blumenschine, Danielle McNeill, Lexie Reid and Kayla Stephenson. The honor recognizes student-athletes who excel in their chosen sport as well as in the classroom.
